The DC Closed Scholastic Championship was held at the US Chess Center, February 23, 2002. This tournament allowed the principal of each Washington school to send one player to compete.
The tournament was tightly contested with excellent representatives from many schools. Kaleem Washington (Aiton Elementary) won the Elementary Section with a perfect 4 points. Jan Santos (Francis Jr. High) won the Junior High School Section. Johnny Sadoff (Burke) and Dung Vu (Wilson) tied for first place in the High School Section with 3 points apiece. Johnny won first place on tie-breaks. Detailed results are shown below:
